I am now SIXTEEN which is strange because I literally still feel thirteen. I’m much cooler than I was at thirteen though, at least there’s that.
I obviously had school today and that is something I never thought I’d be grateful for (having school on a weekday I mean) but after celebrating basically by myself last year because of the pandemic, I’m very glad to be with my friends.
I actually had so much fun though because I brought donuts to school for me and my friends to share and we just laughed and had so much fun. I later also went for dinnerwith my family so all in all a pretty great birthday 🥳
ALSO!!! My parents told me that they were going to take me to a Harry Styles concert for my birthday???? They were like fully serious about it but then idk what happened and they ended up having to cancel 😭 Oh well. It’s the thought that counts so yeah still quite happy. Maybe someday I’ll get to go…
Fun fact: Last year I randomly developed a fear of growing up (😋😶) which meant that for the past few months I was actually kinda dreading my birthday and I completely ignored anyone who talked about it or acknowledged the fact that I was turning sixteen (sorry guys). But like a month or two ago I saw this post that said something like “growing up is a privilege” and that somehow shifted my entire mindset?? Like yeah that’s very true and also might as well enjoy it since there’s absolutely no way to avoid it.
Anywaysss I’m going to go and enjoy the rest of my day so I hope you have an amazing day as well!! Thanks for reading and celebrating my ‘sweet sixteen’ with me *in spirit* ☺️
COMMENT YOUR BIRTHDAY AS WELL PLEASE I’M INTRIGUED.
Song rec. of the post: Steal My Girl by One Direction solely because of that one lyric at the start that goes “she be my queen since we were sixteen”. Yes. I’m a bit annoying like that.
“You never know what someone is going through. Always be kind.”
I’m sure we’ve all heard some variation of that quote, right?
Like I know growing up I’ve heard and read many people say stuff like “ohh be a kind person. don’t bully anyone because they might already be fighting their own battle”.
And obviously it’s a great sentiment because it’s great to be a considerate person and to be kind to someone because they might have other things in their lives that are not as kind.
But honestly, who cares if someone is going through something? Why should that matter?
How about we just be nice because … it’s nice to make people feel nice?? Literally what’s the point in being mean. It makes no sense. Maybe the person is living the life and vibing and super happy and all that jazz without a single worry in their life, or maybe they hate everything. Either way lets just be kinder people 💞💞.
SO yep a random topic that I wanted to rant about because why not.
In honour of this uncalled for post, let’s all do something kind today. Maybe compliment someone, maybe give them a hug, maybe do something nice for them, maybe spend time with someone you don’t usually make time for or maybe give someone a random little gift (me being lazy and listing the five love languages). Or just make them laugh, whatever you want. Just be kind besties because kindness is nice 😉 (that includes being kind to yourself, remember that)
Give me a life update in the comments!! I don’t care if we’ve never talked before, tell me the best thing that happened to you lately. How’s school/ college? Did my title trick you for a sec? How is your friend situation going at the moment? What is something you’re looking forward to? What act of kindness are you planning to do?? Tell me pleaaaase I’m bored.
I hope you’re all doing amazing on this fine Sunday evening
I was initially going to do a post on my favourite lyrics ever but I realised that would take quite a while for me to write and I really wanted to post today so I’m saving that for another day (just so that I can pour my entire heart and soul into it, you know?).
So instead of that, here is my guide on having/ faking confidence.
Anybody who knows me in person knows that confident is NOT one of the first words they would use to describe me. In fact, it probably wouldn’t even be on the list because I lost any shreds of confidence I may have had before during the pandemic. HOWEVER, I have been feeling a bit more confident lately for some reason so this is me talking about things that make me feel confident or fake confidence (I mean fake it till you make it right? right. because law of attraction and you attract what you think about and all that jazz).
Firstly, I think body language is super important. Certain things might make you seem insecure or nervous, even when you’re not. Try not to cross your arms or slouch. Instead, pretend you’re some kind of royalty and everyone already loves you so all you have to do is look cool for them. It’s random but quite helpful.
Secondly, eye contact. I KNOW. I know. Eye contact can sometimes be one of the most painful things to exist but if you can try to maintain it, you’re going to look like you’re one of the most amazing beings on Earth and aware of it. I’m not saying look the other person dead in the eye for your whole 10 minute conversation (it definitely won’t last that long if that’s what you’re doing) but you can try to keep eye contact for at least 7-10 seconds and then look around for a bit and then look back for a bit again. Just make sure it’s not like two seconds and very quickly looking away as that makes you seem scared.
(now for the tips on actually being confident, not just looking)
Then we have affirmations. Saying affirmations like “I am extremely confident” or “I am always fearless” will over time actually make you confident and fearless because you’re telling your mind that is what you are and you just assume that identity (once again, law of attraction. search it up). I try to say affirmations related to confidence (such as this list) every morning and perhaps that has helped? I think it has soooo try it out.
The next tip is one that you might hate me for but I had to say it because it’s the truth. Do things that you are scared to do, or things you don’t think you are good enough for. Because you can literally do anything. I’m telling you. It is what it is so believe it or don’t believe it. When you do something you’re not very sure about doing you’ll realise that it’s not too bad after all and you will get practice doing unfamiliar things until eventually they become familiar. Even something as simple as answering a question in class is a great place to start off. I actually did that recently. In music class in school we learn and play songs as a class and obviously for that we would need someone to sing. All of last year and the first week of this year the teacher was the one singing but last week he asked me and this other person to sing instead and I was about to be like “hahaha no it’s fine” because that thought scared me and I didn’t feel confident enough to. But another tiny part of me was like “this is how you BECOME confident” so I said yes and I had to sing into a microphone in front of the whole class (with my friend who very kindly offered to make me feel less awkward. shoutout to Netra) and lol I hated it but also loved it. I think I’m going to have to do that every time we play now, so by December I’m going to be ready for the Grammys; watch out guys 😚👊🏼
Aaand last but not least, my favourite tip; LISTEN TO HYPE MUSIC. For me, songs by Little Mix, from Reputation by Taylor or songs by Abigail Barlow make me feel like I rule the world. I highly suggest listening to any upbeat (bonus points if they’re self-empowering) songs in the morning that will set a great tone for the rest of the day. Here are some personal favourites that I actually dance to while I brush my teeth every morning lol:
Girl Almighty – One Direction
All Me – Boys World
Wings – Little Mix
just like magic – Ariana Grande
Getaway Car – Taylor Swift
Nobody Cares – Abigail Barlow
tadaaaa!! I hope you guys made it through and enjoyed this post because I really enjoyed writing it!
chat with me in the comments about whether you think you’re confident or not and things that help you feel more confident because trust me, I still need advice. or talk about other things too, what was the best thing that happened recently? what is your favourite type of weather? when is your birthday?? 💞
Song rec. of the post:Ocean Away by Barlow & Bear. This song is my favourite right now but the entire concept album is SO GOOD MY GOSHHHH. Abigail and Emily are insanely talented, my queens 👑 Currently going crazy for this song along with Every Inch so go on and listen to them and fall in love with them. or don’t, your choice.
There are so many different thoughts going through my mind right now and it’s really a combination of “omg I’m in year 11 I’m practically an adult”, “ew I really don’t want to be an adult”, and “ugh I actually have to wake up early and physically go to school every day, how on earth did I do that before???”.
I’m also still processing the fact that August passed by so fast?? (august slipped away into a moment in time, cause it was never mineeeee. I listened to august while taking my dog on a walk yesterday evening and wow it was really an experience. it’s such a great ‘lonely summer evening’ song. I actually passed by my school while listening and was just like 😐). Oh well, at least this summer was better than last summer, for me at least. I don’t remember doing a single thing last summer, like at all.
Anyways, moving on to the actual topic of the post.
I always used to have wavy-ish hair as a child and I didn’t really mind that. But when I was around 12 to 13 years old my hair started growing curly and I was “WHAT is this”. I was very annoyed because at that time I was hoping my hair would become dead straight like most of the people I knew and instead my hair just decided to go in the totally opposite direction. I remember searching it up to see if it would go back to normal once I was done being a teenager and cried when I saw like a dozen blog posts of women talking about how they decided to just love their curly hair instead of trying to straighten it. Yeah I was not having a great time.
Here I am now as a nearly 16 year old who doesn’t search up “heatless hair straightening tutorial” on YouTube anymore. *cue the applause 🎉🎉* I know, I know, character development. I now like my curly hair (I mean the front half of my hair is curly and then the back half is straight but I have zero control over that so I’m just going to accept it) and for a while have been trying to find out how to take care of it properly. So here are some tips that I found on the internet or other curly-haired people told me about. I don’t implement all of the tips every single time but I do try, it’s just a lot of effort 😭😭 Also I’m not a professional so yeah don’t quote me on any of this please I’m just a 15 year old child.
Okay here we go:
DON’T brush your hair when it’s dry: Curly hair is quite delicate so brushing curly hair while dry will cause a lot of breakage and destroy your curls. Plus you know how frizzy your hair gets. Instead you should…
Comb your hair in the shower: I always comb my hair with a wide toothed comb after having applied conditioner because I feel like it helps the comb glide through the hair a little bit better. It also helps to spread the conditioner.
Use a cotton t-shirt instead of a towel to dry: The texture of towels makes your hair weaker and more dry so it’s a lot more beneficial to use a cotton t-shirt or a microfiber towel, those are good as well.
Apply a curl cream after washing: I still don’t use curl cream because I just CAN’T FIND A GOOD ONE (recommendations are much appreciated) but everyone I know has told me to get one so I think you should too. Curl creams condition and moisturize your hair so they allow the curls to stay pretty and stay longer.
Use a silk pillowcase when sleeping: Cotton pillowcases apparently absorb the moisture from your hair, once again leaving it dry, brittle and frizzy. Also, the cotton fibers can tug on your hair and cause friction. I started using a silk pillowcase a few months ago and honestly my hair has been softer and less frizzy, HONESTLY. Silk pillowcases are also supposed to be better for your skin so that’s pretty awesome.
Wash hair 1-3 times a week: I think each point I mention basically has the same effect; shampooing your hair very often can dry it out and therefore ruin your lovely curls. I usually wash my hair once or twice a week because of this point and also because it’s such a hassle to wash my hair, gosh. My arm muscles should be much stronger at this point.
Curly girl method: The final point is the ‘curly girl method‘. I personally haven’t tried this out because … I don’t know. But my cousin has really curly hair and she said the method worked out pretty well for her. Her curls look great so I can offer that if you don’t believe her. The method might not work for everyone and you will most likely have to modify a few things as you go along but I’ve mainly heard good things soooo. If anybody has tried this method PLEASE comment and let me know if you liked it or not.
Aaaand that’s all the tips I have for this post. There aren’t very many but they’re pretty useful.
If you have any other advice or some more tips for me to add to the post, let me know in the comments! I really do need more tips lol. Even if you don’t have curly hair, just talk to me about anything at all. What kind of hair do you have? Do you like it? What’s the worst haircut you’ve ever gotten?
Song recommendation of the post: Something In The Water by Boys World is such an amazing, summery and vibey pop song, LISTEN TO IT. I wish they would’ve released it at the beginning of the summer because I could’ve listened to it more but I can handle it. Go listen now and let me know what you think of it!! 💙
*a literal 5 minute pause where I try to think of what to write because what on Earth are you meant to write in an introduction?? my mind has gone BLANK*
how are you doing?? well, hopefully ☺️
recently me, my cousins (hi Anushka and Jaanvi if you’re reading) and my aunt were talking about how we think we’re going to be in the future and what we’re going to do. So I was like hahah we should write this down somewhere and then look at it in 5 years and see what’s changed. And THEN I remembered a lovely website called futureme.org where you write yourself an email and then choose a date for you to receive that email. if that makes any sense.
Basically, first you write a letter to yourself talking about anything you want. Then you pick when you want to receive this email (it could be a certain amount of years or even a specific date) and send the email. The email will then be sent to you on the date you chose and you have no way of reading it before the specified date. That’s pretty great because I know I’d get a little curious and impatient and try to read a bit before I’m supposed to actually get the email oops.
so yeah we ended making predictions about how we thought we’d be in five years and whether we’re still doing certain things we do now (e.g. I wrote that I’d better be still blogging or else I’m throwing hands 😤) and it was extremely fun.
I’ve actually written two other emails on that website. One I wrote I think 2-3 years ago that I’m going to get on my 18th birthday (I don’t even remember a single thing that I wrote in that lol I’m so curious) and another one me and my friends Simmy and Maia wrote together in school once that we’re supposed to get when we graduate school (yikes but also yay).
To the person reading this, I want you to go to that website now and write yourself a letter.
It can be as long or short as you want and you can receive in in 10 years or a week (a week would be pretty pointless but you do you bestie). Just do it because it’s honestly so much fun and you can write about anything in the world because you’re the only one who’s going to see it. Plus imagine how fun it would be when you wake up 5 years later to see an email from yourself. It sounds pretty great doesn’t it? yeah it does.
This website could also be an amazing way to manifest what you want because you can basically script. (if you don’t get what any of that means, here’s a short video you can watch). I hope I explain this well 😫:
So you can choose a date in 1 year and think of all the things you want to have by then. e.g. more friends, better grades, have travelled somewhere etc. Then, pretend to be you in one year and write a letter to your friend or past self or really anywhere you want and talk about all of these things like you already have them. For example you could be like:
Dear 15-year-old me,
hey it’s 18 year old Hreem and you won’t believe all the things that have happened! I finally went to a Taylor Swift concert and it was the best experience of my life!!!It was like a dream and I went with five of my new best friends ☺️☺️…
I’m sure you get the idea. I really do want to go to a T Swizzle concert tho.
Just talk about it in so much detail as if you really have everything you want and then just send it and forget about it and it could happen! I suggest you watch more youtube videos on that for a better explanation because obviously I’m not an expert, even though I seem like one 😚😌
aaand that’s all for this post. I hope you liked it and that it inspired you to go write (do it now, do it do it gooo).
Talk to me in the comments about if you have done this before or literally anything at all!
Has anything interesting happened in your life recently? What did you dream about last night? What’s the last movie you watched and did you like it?
I have one week left of school and honestly I don’t know how to feel about that 😫
like this school year barely happened and I’m not very excited about going into the next year but oh well there’s nothing I can do about that lol.
anyways I randomly got a burst of inspiration to research the “happiness chemicals” in our brains and what triggers their release and stuff so I did and now I want to share it with you guys because who doesn’t want to be a happier person??
Okay so for everyone who doesn’t know, there are four happiness hormones/chemicals created by our brain and they are dopamine, oxytocin, serotonin and endorphins. These are basically the four things in your brain that are responsible for you feeling anything good.
Firstly we have dopamine, which is the chemical responsible for that kind of instant rewarding feeling you get when you complete a task. It’s the hormone that drives and creates motivation for a goal, one step at a time. Some things you can do to release dopamine are listen to music (woohoo), exercise, meditate, get enough sleep, do a hobby you enjoy or organise something (your room, cupboard, literally anything).
Next is the very lovely 💞oxytocin💞 which is also known as the love hormone because it’s the feeling behind – take a wild guess here please – love, friendship and trust. It’s the kind of warm and fuzzy feeling you get after cuddling your pet or being with your best friends (awwww). It is released after doing anything “loving” so like hugs, cuddles, giving presents, having honest and emotional conversations…all that fun stuff. Also if you have nobody else, warm showers are close enough.
Thirdly issss serotonin which stabilises your mood and basically your body’s wellbeing both in terms of health and mood. To increase serotonin you can spend more time outdoors, eat dark chocolate or exercise. I couldn’t find a lot of good information about serotonin but I think this covers the basics.
And finally endorphins which reduce pain and make you feel really good as a side effect. Some ways to release endorphins are to exercise (exercise is apparently good for like everything 😐🙄 but yeah maybe it’s a sign), eat dark chocolate, have fun with your friends or listen to/make music (looks like music is pretty good for health hehe, loving it).
That’s all for this posttt!!
I’m sorry if I sound really awkward I just completely forgot how to write blog posts where I have to put actual facts instead of just my very cool random thoughts and opinions. It’s clearly been a while.
Let me know if…you knew any of this before? Or literally just chat with me about anything. Like what are your plans for the summer? How do you feel about the weather where you are right now? What’s your favourite ice cream flavour??
guess who’s finally free because their exams are over
After the last exam me and my friend Simmy went to the mall (I got a pretty nail polish, lip scrub and lip balm yay), ate ice cream and accidentally ended up spending two hours dancing and singing screaming Little Mix and One Direction songs. It was honestly such a vibe, you missed it.
Anywayyysss, this post is my long awaited Q&A answers post. Yep I’m finally doing it.
Also I expected to have way less comments so thank you to everyone I really love your questions!! ☺️ This post will also end up being super long if I include all of the questions so I’m going to do half now and the other half in a part two after a few posts. Okay here we go:
What’s your favourite colour of all time? My favourite colour is and always has been pink haha. I never change 😌 Specifically blushy, peachy, baby pinks though. So pretty 😭
What is your favourite food and favourite dessert? I love popcorn and gnocchi (I’ve been having a huge gnocchi phase for a while now) and for dessert probably cake. Dude I literally haven’t had vanilla cake in forever and I’d really love some right now.
What are your personal beliefs? (e.g. religion) I am a Hindu so basically my religion is Hinduism which is where we believe in a lot of Gods instead of just one. And yeah obviously we have a lot of different beliefs but that would be too much to get into now hehe.
What are some of your favourite lyrics? “you drew stars around my scars but now I’m bleeding”
“the shade of green that if he’d seen would make F. Scott Fitzgerald cry”
“I made you my temple, my mural, my sky. Now I’m begging for footnotes in the story of your life.”
Who is your celebrity girl crush? Taylor Swift and Little Mix. They all are just so talented, kind and hardworking and also SUPER beautiful.
Who is your celebrity crush? Harry Styles ✌🏼
What are three things you like about yourself? Hmm, I like that I’m quite a creative person, I try to be kind to people and make them feel happy and good about themselves and that I can find nearly anything funny (some people find that annoying and then that makes me like it even more lol).
What is/are your comfort songs? I love this question 💞💞 Maybe Breathe by T Swift, I Want To Write You A Song by 1D, Fine Line and Golden by Harry Styles and Defenceless by Louis Tomlinson. Clearly I’ve got a really big range of music tastes.
What is your favourite thing about your culture? Everythingggg. Okay but specifically Indian food, clothes, festivals and just the overall vibe. Ooh and Indian weddings they’re so fun (even though I haven’t gone to one in forever 😔😫)
What is your favourite movie? Probably Ocean’s 8, that was a great movie. Honestly I haven’t seen a really good movie in forever so yeah that’s what I’ll go with. Also The Parent Trap because how can you not love that movie.
Who is your favourite music artist? My number one favourite is Taylor Swift incase anyone still didn’t know and then I love a bunch of other artists like One Direction and some of their solo music, Little Mix, Camila Cabello, Finneas, Abigail Barlow and Boys World. There’s a bunch more but then this would end up being really boring so yeah, check out the artists if you’d like!
What are some of your favourite books? I liked the To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before series, the Shopaholic series by Sophie Kinsella and honestly probably any Sophie Kinsella books like I’ve Got Your Number.
What do you want to study in university? I really love music so that’s probably something I’d love to study more!
What is your favourite song by Taylor Swift? This is nearly impossible to answer because Taylor has like 9 masterpieces of albums so I *unsuccessfully* narrowed it down to a few:
Don’t Blame Me
right where you left me
Andddd that’s allll!!! Thanks for the questions ❤
I hope you guys enjoyed reading and stay tuned for part two at some point.
Answer one of these questions in the comments because I’d love to know more about you guys!! Or also let me know if we have any things in common ☺️☺️
this is a very tiny post because my end of year exams start tomorrow and I’m very stressed 😭😭
I also have to go to school to take them which freaks me out because I haven’t physically been to school like at all, yeah. all my social skills (not that I had many to begin with if I’m being honest) are GONE and I can’t stand the thought of actually having to walk into my classroom for the first time this year knowing everyone else already has like met and stuff but I’m like the random girl there.
Can you tell I’m introverted and insecure?
ALSO GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE WHO HAS THEIR EXAMS!!!!
We’re all gonna celebrate when they’re over (I definitely am, not sure how but in some way I have to)
so yeah I’ll see you guys next week when I finally (🙄) get around to doing the Q&A post that is like a month overdue already.
(If you’re annoyed by all the question marks, let me just say there was a blog challenge and I had to end each sentence with a question mark)
heyyyy how are you guys?
you might have read my post about why you should journal and maybe (hopefully) started journaling or maybe you journaled already? anyways this is a post for when you want to write but don’t you want to write about?
What is my best personality trait?
What compliment do I want to hear right now?
What is something I wish I could get over but haven’t yet?
What is something that made me super happy recently?
What makes me feel loved?
Who do I really want to talk to right now and why?
What kind of a person do I want to be? How can I be that person?
If I could talk to my future self what would I ask them?
What makes me feel the most confident?
What can I change in my life right now to make myself happier?
