I can’t believe the year is finally over and for once I’m saying this in a good way. There were so many good moments that I’m extremely grateful for but also 2022 was super tiring and there were things that really..sucked. So in summary this year was the literal definition of a roller coaster and thankfully I survived.
As a rite of passage, this is my end-of-year reflection post that will be much better than my previous one. I’m splitting the year up into four parts because every 3 months felt like a different chapter and also I’m too lazy to document each month individually. Plus I mean who’d want to read such a detailed review.
January to March
a TERRIBLE THREE MONTHS. I can’t even explain it but the vibes were so off in the first three months and my mental health was lowkey deteriorating. I genuinely cannot believe I am the same girl who experienced those three months because that was a whole trip. Anyways, personally I wouldn’t consider it the best way to start the year but maybe that’s just me (the events that took place were pretty good but as I said the vibes weren’t).
We had our mock exams in Jan and I got a very painful 2 in one of my math criterions (out of 8, very humbling) but a 6 in my econ test (out of 7. the moment I realised I may actually be capable of slaying in econ).
Made a music video for the 10 minute version of All Too Well with Simmy and Netra and I just wanna say that is a cinematic masterpiece and I’d post it here if I could. We also did around the kitchen in the refrigerator light in case you were wondering.
Did 90% of my final music project in the last two weeks before the deadline (wrote and recorded the entire song an hour before) and yes I brought that upon myself but as you can see I still complain about it to this day.
International day was cute and we wore our cute Indian clothes to school. Me and Simmy also got married that day (???). Loved it.
Played Holi with my friends and it was way too much fun.
April to June
Actually the best three months of the year and I can’t name one single unenjoyable thing that happened because it was just great.
We had our last round of mocks and then the last normal month of year 11 and then our final exams which I was weirdly confident for and did not have mental breakdowns over (only one and it was for french for some reason).
My stomach had a bad reaction to some quesadillas I ate with my friends literally 2 days before myp graduation so that was not at all fun but I made it to grad and looked good so who cares.
PROM with my best friends and getting ready was even more fun than the event itself, as usual.
My cousin came back from uni for the summer (if she’s reading this then ew her return was like the last thing I wanted) and it made life more entertaining.
We got a kitten for like 2 weeks and now she belongs to my aunt but she’s a cutie and I was her first favourite person (or my mom idk).
July to September
This was such a random in-between chapter where life just flowed and yes it was overall a pretty chill three months.
Went to a Louis Tomlinson concerttt!! Still one of the best things to come out of this year ugh it was perfect.
Went on a staycation with my cousins and stuff and it was WAY too hot but the beach was nice.
We got our MYP scores/ exam results and I got a 51/56 which I was really proud of (very much hoped I’d do better but this works for now) and my friend got 56/56 which is insane (the only person in the UAE to get that this year) so YAY VARSHITAA
Then went to India for like 10 days and had fun at a random person’s wedding and got food poisoning.
October to December
I have a lot of good memories from these three months and they would have been the best months of the year if it wasn’t for one thing that was just the lowest part of my year (to put it in nice and simple words).
Turned 17 and celebrated that with my friends and family. It was really nice and I was super happy 😋
Went on the school trip to Ras Al Khaimah (already talked about that enough in the last post) and got really tanned.
Two week trip to India with most of my cousins and family and it was extremely chaotic but it was nice to see new places and spend time with my family. We went to Odisha, Assam, and Bengal and fun fact I almost got attacked by a goat (technically no but like kinda)
A picture me and my friends took at a mini Diwali party is becoming kinda Pinterest famous (if you count 200 saves and 18k impressions as kinda Pinterest famous) and we keep buying chocolate for ourselves whenever the post reaches a milestone. It’s such an honour honestly we are truly humbled.
So there we go, there’s my 2022 in 22 bullet points (the 22 bullet points were actually not intended but I just counted them up and it’s very cool that there are exactly 22; it’s a sign). I hope it was somewhat entertaining to read because it was quite fun for me to write.
How was 2022 for you? What were some of the highlights and some things you want to leave behind? What are you looking forward to this year?? Talk to me in the comments! As usual, I love to chat 😚
Song rec. of the post:Saturdays by Louis Tomlinson. Something about this song feels so personal and vulnerable and like a soft little hug. I listened to it for the first time with Simmy and when I heard it the main lyric that stood out to me was “I’ve been wondering about what you’re up to. Not for the first time, not for the last time” and I don’t know why. It reminds me a lot of Little Freak by Harry Styles in terms of the idea/message so I love the songs even more as a pairing. GO LISTEN, it’s a beautiful song.
The gorgeous cake me and Simmy made together. Ignore the blob on the top we had some minor technical difficulties.
Hello guysssss
I created this lovely little blog FIVE WHOLE YEARS AGO when I was a tiny 12-year-old which (as I say every year) is so insane to think about. I don’t know if I expected myself to still be writing 5 years later but I definitely hoped that I would be.
I don’t blog consistently enough to say that but whatever, it’s the thought that counts and I’m here right now, aren’t I? yes. Thank you.
It’s so weird to look through my older blog posts and see how much I’ve changed and the way I remember writing these posts and coming up with ideas for them like it was yesterday. It’s so adorable because they feel like little journal entries (that anyone who’s interested can very easily see) or like (one-sided) conversations with friends.
Along with completing 5 years I also recently reached 300 followers on my blog??! I keep putting the question marks because once again it’s quite insane, I mean, 300 is a lot.
Thankkkk youuuu eveerryoneee for reading and liking and commenting and following honestly it means the world to me and makes 12 year old me extremely shocked and excited. I love you!!
Song rec. of the post: Snow On The Beach by Taylor Swift feat. Lana Del Rey. Anyone who ever said this is a bad song is just objectively so wrong and I’m glad I don’t have to share one of my favourite songs with you (might be harsh but I’m just very passionate about my cause). The song overall just feels so ethereal and sweet and floaty and the lyrics are so precious and dreamy. I mean “I searched aurora borealis green, I’ve never seen someone lit from within, blurring out my periphery”???? I love this song with my entire heart so please go listen to it, it’s beautiful. Let me know what you think when you do <3.
Not sure if you know this but my birthday was at the beginning of this month (the 5th, to be exact) and I am now a dancing queen, young and sweet, only 17.
I’ve already used that lyric at every opportunity so the people that know me are so done with it. But like it would be a waste if I didn’t make every single lyric related to being 17 my entire personality for this year.
Anyways so 16 was definitely the most chaotic and eventful year of my life; the highs were the highest and the lows were the lowest, as Louis Tomlinson once said. Through all of it I learnt a few lessons and came across a few quotes that really stuck with me so I decided to share some of those things on my blog, hope you enjoy.
“Your aim is to do your best, not better than someone else”
This is actually advice I offhandedly gave to one of my friends this year and if you knew me you’d find that incredibly ironic because comparing myself to others is one of my talents. But last year I worked really hard to improve my economics grade from a passing grade at the start of the year to the highest one you can get at the end of the year and realised that it’s so much more satisfying and rewarding to compete with your own achievements than someone else’s.
“If you never bleed you’re never gonna grow”
Some wise words from Taylor Swift that I didn’t understand when I first heard them but I get them now. Although we hate getting hurt and enduring negative situations, we can’t grow or develop as a person without them. Even though it sucks, you need to experience failure, or losing something you love, or just being really hurt or upset in order to grow stronger.
“If nobody said it, don’t assume it”
This one might not make sense but I need it because I tend to overthink conversations and people’s reactions until I somehow come to the conclusion that they don’t like me anymore. So my friend told me to not assume this unless I have solid evidence (the only acceptable solid evidence is the person outright saying that they don’t like me) because until then there’s kind of no proof. I don’t know if that makes any sense but I find it helpful to remember that anytime I’m in that sort of situation.
“Just because things could’ve been different doesn’t mean they would have been better”
This one is pretty self-explanatory 🫶🏼
So yep. I didn’t expect to be old and wise already but here I am writing about LIFE LESSONS. Gosh. I hope you enjoyed reading this post or at least found one of the lessons valuable because I mean they do have potential, you know?
Talk to me in the comments about anything I’ve written here, or about autumn, or about MIDNIGHTS (I love the album, honestly. I’ve heard a lot of people say they were disappointed but I really love most of the songs like Anti-Hero, Question..?, Midnight Rain and the rest are growing on me).
Song rec. of the post: Maroon by Taylor Swift. Taylor seems to really love the colour red but it’s okay because I do too. I feel like this song sounds like those movie scenes where the main character is standing in a dark, crowded party but the only thing they’re focused on is this other person and everything is happening in slow motion. Ugh I just love it so much so go listen to it and tell me what you think.
(this post took forever to write so excuse the late-ness)
First of all, I just want to say happy birthday to my lovely blog/ baby Chic Life Thru My Lens!! She’s 4 years old now wow. Honestly, I feel like I’ve been blogging for much longer but oh well.
Happy Red Season! ❤️
yep yep, Red (Taylor’s Version) is finally outtt and that means it’s time for another album review woohooo. I’m so excited to write this post but also the album contains 30 songs so it’s going to take… a while. For that reason, I’m going to attempt to write a little less for each song than I did in my Fearless post.
For anyone who is confused and doesn’t know anything about what’s going on, Taylor Swift first 6 albums were bought without her permission a few years ago so she is now re-recording all of those albums in an attempt to own them.
Red was originally released in 2012 when I was seven (SEVEN??) and I do have many memories of jamming out to I Knew You Were Trouble, We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together and 22. Ooh and also the title track of course. While I loved this album before, I never really considered it one of my favourites. HOWEVER, I am now in love with the re-recording so I’m going to have to reconsider that opinion.
Anyways, let’s start talking about the songs and my fav lyrics from them.
State of Grace
One of the most perfect album openers of all time. State of Grace is one of Taylor’s best songs without question and I think it’s time for it to be properly appreciated. The drums and electric guitar that play throughout the song always make me feel like I’m in a cool coming-of-age movie and the lyrics are so beautiful as well like how on Earth did she just write that song. My mom also loves this song as much as I do so let’s add sentimental value into the mix. The production is so much better in this version and ohmygosh the electric guitar sounds so much cleaner and sharper. I could go on about this song for days but I’ll have to end it by saying 10/10!!!
“So you were never a saint and I’ve loved in shades of wrong We learn to live with the pain mosaic broken hearts”
Red
The much love title track. Her vocals in this version are a lot stronger and more well-developed which makes the song that much more powerful. Once again the electric guitar sounds so amazing – especially in the second verse, and I’m just obsessed.
“And that’s why he’s spinning ’round in my head, comes back to me burning red”
Treacherous
I love treacheroussss! It’s an extremely pretty song and just sounds so delicate and uncertain but certain? I love how the second chorus is a bit louder to build-up to the beautiful bridge. Also, the re-recording sounds basically identical to the original so love that.
“And all we are is skin and bone Trained to get along Forever going with the flow But you’re friction”
I Knew You Were Trouble
This song is very iconic and dare I say a teensy bit overplayed and therefore I’m a little tired of hearing it. But nevertheless, it sounds great.
“And I heard you moved on From whispers on the street A new notch in your belt Is all I’ll ever be”
All Too Well
I love all too well but I’ll write about the 10 minute version, which is last.
22
22 is as great as ever in the verses but I’m not the biggest fan of the reverb she put in the chorus instead of like layered vocals 😭😭 Gonna blast this song on New Years tho!! (like my exams don’t start the next day yep).
“It feels like a perfect night For breakfast at midnight To fall in love with strangers”
I Almost Do
I Almost Do was never one of my favourites off of Red but I think it’s quite relatable? Like I feel like you can relate to it even the slightest bit even in terms of a friendship because everyone goes through something where you wanna talk to someone but deep down you’re like I probably shouldn’t but I want you to know that I want to!! If that makes no sense just pretend it does.
“I bet it never ever occurred to you That I can’t say “Hello” to you And risk another goodbye”
We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together
I used to blast this song with my friends when I was like 10 years old and it brings me the same feelings I used to get back then so it’s perfect. The phone call part still has the attitude and annoyed-ness and the song wouldn’t be complete without it.
“I’m really gonna miss you picking fights And me falling for it, screaming that I’m right”
Stay Stay Stay
Gonna be honest and say the instrumental isn’t my favourite thing ever but it’s okay because the song is so sweet and playful. Plus if she felt happy enough to write this song then that’s a good thing.
“All those times that you didn’t leave It’s been occurring to me I’d like to hang out with you For my whole life”
The Last Time (feat. Gary Lightbody)
I always love when Taylor does a duet and this song is the perfect one because of the two perspectives and it reminds me so much of Exile. The way the harmonies switch up so often makes me happy and it’s so fun to sing along to.
“You wear your best apology But I was there to watch you leave”
Holy Ground
I feel like Red has two parts: the sad, heartbroken songs and then the ‘wow life is fun and love is awesome!’ songs. To me, Holy Ground fits slightly into both of those categories because she’s talking about how even though their relationship ended, it was still so great while it lasted. I’d like to reiterate that every song she wrote about Joe Jonas turned out to be amazing (e.g. Mr Perfectly Fine) because this song is so good and makes me want to just get up and dance + sing my heart out.
“Spinning like a girl in a brand new dress We had this big wide city all to ourselves We blocked the noise with the sound of, “I need you” And for the first time, I had something to lose”
Sad Beautiful Tragic
The title actually describes this song perfectly, it’s sad, beautiful and tragic. I used to not pay much attention to it but once I was reading a book where this song matched the situation perfectly so I listened to it on repeat until the (very long) chapter was over and by the end of it I had fallen in love with the song. Most of the song is so sad and gentle kind of flows the same but then the bridge is desperate and hopeless and frustrated and gives the song exactly what it was missing.
“Kiss me, try to fix it Could you just try to listen? Hang up, give up For the life of us we can’t get back”
The Lucky One
Taylor’s storytelling is impeccable so obviously this song is the same. It’s about fame and somebody who was dreaming of being famous but after that they realised it’s not what they thought it would be and they want to go back to normal but everyone tells them they’re so lucky but they just don’t believe that. I think it’s so amazing because you could in certain ways link it to your own life. Like if there’s something you always wanted and were jealous of people for having/being but once you got it you’re like oh gosh, you might relate.
“And they tell you that you’re lucky, but you’re so confused ‘Cause you don’t feel pretty, you just feel used” (this lyric is SO GOOD??)
Everything Has Changed (feat. Ed Sheeran)
omg Everything Has Changed used to be one of my favourite songs when it came out because I just really loved the music video for it and honestly I still do. This is probably the sweetest song on the album and even Ed sounds better on the rerecording so that’s a bonus.
“All I know is a new found grace All my days, I’ll know your face”
Starlight
AND I SAID OH MYY WHAT A MARVELOUS TUNE IT WAS THE BEST NIGHT NE- anyways Starlight is amazing and I will not be accepting any other opinions. This would be such a great song to get all dressed up and dance to with your friends and I will do that someday😌 The guitar solo as welllll, I love it.
“He said, ‘Look at you, worrying so much about things you can’t change You’ll spend your whole life singing the blues if you keep thinking that way'”
Begin Again
The Begin Again music video was the thing that inspired me to want to go to Paris and I literally still want to go (even though it definitely won’t be the same) because it all looks so beautiful! I love how you can hear through the lyrics, music and her voice that she’s starting to believe in love again and overall the song is just so pretty.
“But you throw your head back laughing like a little kid. I think it’s strange that you think I’m funny, ’cause he never did”
The Moment I Knew
At first I found it slightly annoying that the verses of this song don’t have a rhyming scheme but as I listened to it more I realised the lack of rhyming makes it more conversational and as if she’s talking to the person the song is meant for. Then when the chorus hits you feel all the emotion and see the picture she is painting throughout the song. So in conclusion, The Moment I Knew is so genius and go listen to it.
“And it was like slow motion Standing there in my party dress In red lipstick With no one to impress”
Come Back…Be Here
Taylor performed this live maybe once which is so sad because it’s one of my favourite songs off of Red. To be honest I have no idea why I love it so much because I can’t pinpoint a specific thing that I love, maybe it’s just the song as a whole.
“Taxi cabs and busy streets That never bring you back to me”
Girl At Home
Dude. When I heard the rerecording I immediately messaged my friend “WHAT HAPPENED TO GIRL AT HOME” because if you’ve heard the original you’ll know it’s so different because she made it more pop than country. I did not like the original too much but this version is such a vibe I actually love it.
“I just wanna make sure You understand perfectly, you’re the kind of man who makes me sad”
*onto the vault songs yay*
Ronan
I can never listen to Ronan because it’s extremely sad and gives me chills every time. It’s a song about a 4-year-old boy who passed away because of cancer and the revenue from the song goes to charity which is really great.
“Race cars on the kitchen floor, plastic dinosaurs I love you to the moon and back”
Better Man
I was SO HAPPY when she announced the tracklist and I saw that Better Man was on it because I downloaded the video of her singing it at Bluebird cafe and used to listen to that so often wishing she would’ve kept the song. It’s a sad song and you can really hear the emotion in it.
“Sometimes, in the middle of the night, I can feel you again But I just miss you, and I just wish you were a better man“
Nothing New (feat. Phoebe Bridgers)
I. love. nothing new. That might be a bit concerning because the song is quite sad but it is my favourite vault track. I love the harmonies in it and the way Taylor and Phoebe’s voice sound; it’s quite calming. The song is all about growing older and feeling as if you’re losing your “novelty”. It’s even more interesting because she wrote a whole song about turning 22 and how amazing she feels and how life is great but then there’s also this song about comtemplating everything. I guess it shows that nobody’s life is perfect even if it looks like (getting a little cliche here but it was my first thought when I heard the chorus).
“I’ve had too much to drink tonight How did I go from growing up to breaking down?”
Babe
Babe is my second favourite vault song and while the version sung by Sugarland is good, I prefer Taylor’s version. Could be that I’m biased but it also could be because the “what about your promises, promises” parts are so addicting. yeah that for sure.
“I break down every time you call We’re a wreck, you’re the wrecking ball We said no one else, how could you do this, babe?”
Message In A Bottle
Message In A Bottle is very fun and super pop-influenced and it’s super fun to dance around to. I know if she released it in 2012 I would’ve been in love with it.
“But time moves faster Replaying your laughter Disaster”
I Bet You Think About Me (feat. Chris Stapleton)
Another song that I found a little bit forgettable at first but now I’m really enjoying singing the lyrics dramatically in the car (my mom can confirm) and acting out every lyric to my heart’s content. Specifically the last lyric which goes…
“I bet you think about me when you say ‘Oh my God, she’s insane, she wrote a song about me’ I bet you think about me”
Forever Winter
I think Forever Winter is so beautiful but the lyrics and the meaning behind the song are so sad because it seems to be addressed to someone with mental health issues. I really don’t know what else to say but yeah it 100% should’ve been on the original Red.
“If I was standin’ there in your apartment I’d take that bomb in your head and disarm it I’d say I love you even at your darkest”
Run
Another song with Ed Sheeran ayy lol. I’d say the melody for Run is quite simple but the harmonies and lyrics are super nice so that makes up for it. I’m listening to the song right now and the only thing I can think is I love the harmonieeessssss. Oh also finally Ed gets more chances to sing than in Everything Has Changed so there’s that.
“There’s a heart on your sleeve I’ll take it when I leave And hold it for you”
The Very First Night
This gives me very similar vibes to Message In A Bottle but I for some reason I love Message In A Bottle a lot more lol. One question I have for Taylor is why did she say “they don’t know how much I miss you” when she could have said “miss ya” it rhymes so much better and ‘you’ ruins the whole flowww 😭
“Back then we didn’t know we were built to fall apart We broke the status quo, then we broke each other’s hearts”
All Too Well (10 Minute Version)
*deep breath* THIS SONG. I had been hoping to hear the ten minute version of All Too Well from the first moment I knew it existed around 2-3 years ago. I mean the song is already amazing, can you imagine ten whole minutes of it? So yeah my friend Simran (she’s iconic on my blog now, you should know who I’m talking about) and I were counting down the days until we would hear this song and the rest of Red and now that I’ve heard it I absolutely love it. The lyricism is so amazing, I can’t believe one song could have so many good lyrics. Overall, this version made me love All Too Well like 10 times more ❤️
“And there we are again when nobody had to know You kept me like a secret, but I kept you like an oath”
andddd there’s my Red post. I’m not writing much more because I’m so done at this point but if you made it to the end I hope you enjoyed!!! and here have a cookie 🍪 (credits to Netra who said I should say that).
Talk to me in the comments about the album! What are your favourite songs from it? What are your least favourite songs from it? Do you agree or disagree with anything I said?? Lemme know
Song recommendation of the post: any song I mentioned in this post 😚
Love (which is golden like daylight, NOT red), Hreem xx
FIRST of all. I hit 250 followers woohoo! I’m so happy so thank you to all the cool new people following my blog. I will now make the part 2 of my Q&A (which I totally didn’t just remember) because it’s another thing to celebrate ☺️ Alright now let’s move on.
In the past few years I have started to become really interested in lyricism and songwriting. Like it’s something I value in a song now whereas earlier all I wanted was a song that was catchy and fun. So every now and then I will listen to a song and hear one specific lyric that makes me want to screeeam because it’s literally so well written (bonus points if the entire song is well written, in which case I feel like throwing something against the wall).
These lyrics are very important to me and I decided to share them with you because… sharing is caring.
So yep, bearing that in mind, here is my list of
Song Lyrics That Hold a Special Place in My Heart ™
You drew stars around my scars but now I’m bleeding – cardigan by t.s.
The imagery of this lyric has had a hold on me since day one. I just cannot imagine a world where I didn’t know this lyric. WHY IS IT SO PRETTY??? I think it means like taking something bad and painful (scars) and kind of how that other person made you feel okay and nice about it (stars) but now the person is gone and the wounds have like “reopened”?? well that’s my interpretation.
Put a price on emotion, I’m looking for something to buy – fine line by h.s.
Can we take a very quick moment to appreciate this lyric *random silent pause* yep thanks. it’s literally so genius and is a complex and poetic way of saying “I’m numb/emotionless and I want to feel something”. I really don’t know what else to say but the fact this is the first lyric in the song makes it a hundred times better.
I’ll be your quiet afternoon crush, be your violent overnight rush, make you crazy over my touch – supercut by lorde
I always love Lorde’s lyrics because I feel like the songs from Pure Heroine and Melodrama are so teenager-y and sometimes even coming of age-ish (my English here is actually painful). She manages to capture the chaotic-ness (again) of being a teenager in such a unique way. I don’t have a proper explanation for why I love this lyric, I just do. It probably has something to do with the word choice and the whole concept of it like who comes up with that?
Now if happiness is always measured by the life you design, that car on the drive Then you should feel better than ever but you know as well as I, it’s all lies. – fearless by l.t.
I think the meaning of this lyric is very clear but just in case it’s not: actual happiness and contentment doesn’t come from what you’ve done and what you have and you should know that because you’ve got everything and you’re still not perfectly happy. It’s quite a simple lyric but I really love how he put it and how it relates well to the meaning of the rest of the song.
All but forgotten about those eyes The shade of green that if he’d seen would make F. Scott Fitzgerald cry. – i don’t miss you at all by finneas
See Finneas just always hits the nail right on the head with lyrics that sound simple but are also so smart and interesting that you know other artists would have a bit of trouble coming up with them. F. Scott Fitzgerald is the author of ‘The Great Gatsby’ in which there is a green light representing his longing for a woman so this is just such a genius connection. Not that I’ve ever read The Great Gatsby but…
I made you my temple, my mural, my sky Now I’m begging for footnotes in the story of your life. – tolerate it by t.s.
Okay at first I thought this lyric was just pretty cool and sounded great but when you actually think about it you’re like omg. Because listen: I made you my temple = “worshipped” you, my mural = admired you, my sky = looked up to you. And now she’s so desperate to be even slightly relevant to his life to the point where she’s begging to even just be a footnote, which is something generally less important in a piece of writing. I mean this entire song is a masterpiece but the bridge and last chorus hurt the hardest.
A few honourable mentions (mostly Taylor Swift because she’s just amazing so deal with it 👼🏼)
And they tell you that you’re lucky but you’re so confused, because you don’t feel pretty, you just feel used. – the lucky one by t.s.
And the callouses on your fingers, I admired them from a distance, now they’re on my cheek. – used to this by c.c.
I know I’m not your only, but at least I’m one. I heard a little love is better than none. – just a little bit of your heart by a.g.
And you come away with a great little story. Of a mess of a dreamer with the nerve to adore you. – cold as you by t.s.
Because I hear he’s got his arm ’round a brand new girl. I’ve been picking up my heart, he’s been picking up her. – mr. perfectly fine by t.s.
So you were never a saint, and I’ve loved in shades of wrong. We learn to live with the pain, mosaic broken hearts. – state of grace by t.s.
used me as an alibi, I crossed my heart as you crossed the line. – favorite crime by o.r.
Special mention: fruity colours on these numbers call it a chameleon – statistics by timothee chalamet (shoutout to varshitaa)
tadaaaaa
I hope you loved this post because I so enjoyed having a place to vent about this.
Hopefully even one of the lyrics caught your eye and encouraged you to listen to the song?? If yes PLEAASE comment because I’d love to know. I put so much effort into putting the links lol it’d better be worth it.
Comment your favourite song lyrics or songwriters or just songs in general!! I’m so intrigued and I love hearing other people’s favourites because I feel like it tells you a lot about the person 💞
Song rec. of the post: literally any song I talked about in this post but if I had to choose one specifically I would say fearless by Louis Tomlinson because both he and this song are criminally underrated. I’ve just loved this song since I first listened to it and hopefully you will too. Oh and the “mum I did it” at the end of the song makes me so sad 🤍 You only hear it if you listen really hard so…do that.
guess who’s finally free because their exams are over
🎉✨😌ME 😌✨🎉
After the last exam me and my friend Simmy went to the mall (I got a pretty nail polish, lip scrub and lip balm yay), ate ice cream and accidentally ended up spending two hours dancing and singing screaming Little Mix and One Direction songs. It was honestly such a vibe, you missed it.
Anywayyysss, this post is my long awaited Q&A answers post. Yep I’m finally doing it.
Also I expected to have way less comments so thank you to everyone I really love your questions!! ☺️ This post will also end up being super long if I include all of the questions so I’m going to do half now and the other half in a part two after a few posts. Okay here we go:
What’s your favourite colour of all time? My favourite colour is and always has been pink haha. I never change 😌 Specifically blushy, peachy, baby pinks though. So pretty 😭
What is your favourite food and favourite dessert? I love popcorn and gnocchi (I’ve been having a huge gnocchi phase for a while now) and for dessert probably cake. Dude I literally haven’t had vanilla cake in forever and I’d really love some right now.
What are your personal beliefs? (e.g. religion) I am a Hindu so basically my religion is Hinduism which is where we believe in a lot of Gods instead of just one. And yeah obviously we have a lot of different beliefs but that would be too much to get into now hehe.
What are some of your favourite lyrics? “you drew stars around my scars but now I’m bleeding”
“the shade of green that if he’d seen would make F. Scott Fitzgerald cry”
“I made you my temple, my mural, my sky. Now I’m begging for footnotes in the story of your life.”
Who is your celebrity girl crush? Taylor Swift and Little Mix. They all are just so talented, kind and hardworking and also SUPER beautiful.
Who is your celebrity crush? Harry Styles ✌🏼
What are three things you like about yourself? Hmm, I like that I’m quite a creative person, I try to be kind to people and make them feel happy and good about themselves and that I can find nearly anything funny (some people find that annoying and then that makes me like it even more lol).
What is/are your comfort songs? I love this question 💞💞 Maybe Breathe by T Swift, I Want To Write You A Song by 1D, Fine Line and Golden by Harry Styles and Defenceless by Louis Tomlinson. Clearly I’ve got a really big range of music tastes.
What is your favourite thing about your culture? Everythingggg. Okay but specifically Indian food, clothes, festivals and just the overall vibe. Ooh and Indian weddings they’re so fun (even though I haven’t gone to one in forever 😔😫)
What is your favourite movie? Probably Ocean’s 8, that was a great movie. Honestly I haven’t seen a really good movie in forever so yeah that’s what I’ll go with. Also The Parent Trap because how can you not love that movie.
Who is your favourite music artist? My number one favourite is Taylor Swift incase anyone still didn’t know and then I love a bunch of other artists like One Direction and some of their solo music, Little Mix, Camila Cabello, Finneas, Abigail Barlow and Boys World. There’s a bunch more but then this would end up being really boring so yeah, check out the artists if you’d like!
What are some of your favourite books? I liked the To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before series, the Shopaholic series by Sophie Kinsella and honestly probably any Sophie Kinsella books like I’ve Got Your Number.
What do you want to study in university? I really love music so that’s probably something I’d love to study more!
What is your favourite song by Taylor Swift? This is nearly impossible to answer because Taylor has like 9 masterpieces of albums so I *unsuccessfully* narrowed it down to a few:
Don’t Blame Me
Enchanted
Hey Stephen
august
right where you left me
Andddd that’s allll!!! Thanks for the questions ❤
I hope you guys enjoyed reading and stay tuned for part two at some point.
Answer one of these questions in the comments because I’d love to know more about you guys!! Or also let me know if we have any things in common ☺️☺️
**This may be the longest post I’ve ever done but it was so much fun to write and I’d greatly appreciate if you stuck around until the end. Love you!**
hey guysss!
I hope you are doing amazing and having a great morning/ afternoon/ evening wherever you are 💕
On April 9th, Taylor (I’ve mentioned her enough times on my blog to not have to add Swift yeah thanks) released her rerecorded version of ‘Fearless’, her second album which she released back in 2008. Fearless is the super cool album with Love Story and You Belong With Me and a bunch of other great songs. The album also won 4 Grammys including Album of the Year and made her the youngest person in history to win that (now it’s Billie Eilish).
Soooo you may be wondering why exactly she rerecorded the album around 13 years later. Long story short, Scooter Braun (who had bullied Taylor for years) bought her old record label and therefore owned all six of her original albums at the time. That meant he had control over her music and where it was used and anytime people streamed her songs he would earn money from it, even though he had nothing to do with the actual making of the album. Along with that, he wouldn’t let her buy her music back. So now she’s rerecording albums one through six in attempt to own her music (woohoo).
Now let’s get to the fun part- the actual album.
Fearless is an album I used to listen to a lot back when I first got an iPod so I was definitely very excited to find out it would be released first. There are definitely a couple of changes in the songs but nothing major as she tried to keep the songs as similar to the originals so that people wouldn’t go and listen to the old ones. The first major difference is that her voice has obviously matured a lot and gotten much stronger and her technique has also changed and improved. Plus she pronounces a few words slightly different which sounds dumb but is very important to me. (e.g. the way she says ‘window’ in The Other Side of the Door’).
Sadly I am physically and mentally incapable of ranking the songs on this album like I usually do when talking about albums. I actually tried and it’s impossible sooo I’ll just give little descriptions for the songs instead. Enjoyyy
Fearless
Fearless is maybe the most country sounding song on the album along with ‘Tell Me Why’ and it’s one of my top songs on the album because the whole mood of the song is just like being a happy teenager minus school and annoying other stuff. Also I love the the concept and imagery in the chorus.
“I don’t know why but with you I’d dance in a storm in my best dress, Fearless.”
Fifteen
I’M FIFTEEN. That was the only explanation I really need to give but yeah. I used to look forward to turning Fifteen just so I could sing this song with more emotion but so far I relate to nothing from the song which is kinda sad. The song is basically that when you’re Fifteen you’re super naive and you don’t really know who you are yet. Okay so then I guess I relate to one thing…
“I’ve found time can heal most anything And you just might find who you’re supposed to be I didn’t know who I was supposed to be At fifteen”
Love Story
Umm do I even need to say anything? Love Story is one of the most iconic songs for 2000’s kids and the key change after the chorus is just everything.
“You’ll be the prince and I’ll be the princess. It’s a love story, baby just say ‘yes’.”
Hey Stephen
If you exclude the singles (You Belong With Me, Love Story, Fifteen, Change, White Horse) Hey Stephen is probably definitely my favourite song off of Fearless. It’s just so cute and fun and happy and the little laugh after “..but would they write a song for you?” is the cherry on the cake. Also the Stephen that this song is about had actually also written a song about her which is SO CUTE that they both did that.
“Hey Stephen I could give you fifty reasons why I should be the one you choose. All those other girls, well they’re beautiful, but would they write a song for you..? *giggle*”
White Horse
Fun fact for anyone who didn’t know, this song was about the same dude that Love Story was about. So yeah, the story clearly didn’t end well but at least she got two (amazing) songs out of it. White Horse is a song my mom really loves so it has sentimental value *wipes tear*. omg and when Taylor sings “I’m going to find someone someday who might actually treat me well” knowing she has finally found someone who treats her well 😭
“I was a dreamer before you went and let me down. Now it’s too late for you and your white horse to come around.”
You Belong With Me
The verses, the choruses, the bridge, every part of this song is so goooooood. You’d be lying if you said you don’t like this song or know the lyrics to it. You just are. Also in the rerecorded version she finally changed the lyric from “I’m in the room” to “I’m in my room” which is great because ‘the room’ never made any sense to me.
“I know your favorite songs and you tell me ’bout your dreams. Think I know where you belong, think I know it’s with me…”
Breathe
Beautiful. Sad. Amazing. Simple but underrated bridge. This song is about losing a friend rather than a breakup and for some reason the song has stuck with me since I first heard it way back when. I love ittt 💛
“It’s two am, feeling like I just lost a friend. Hope you know it’s not easy, easy for me.”
Tell Me Why
I have to admit, I don’t listen to this song much but I don’t think it’s bad, there are some lyrics in there that are pretty cool. Also this feels like a baby version of ‘Mean’ that she put out on the next album. Sometimes I just listen to it to laugh at this very well written lyric because it’s such a mood(artist of the decade, everyone) ↓
“You could write a book on how to ruin someone’s perfect day.”
You’re Not Sorry
I always love when she does kind of sad slow songs with a piano instead of guitar which is her usual thing so You’re Not Sorry really stands out to me on this album. The piano also gives her voice more of the spotlight so you can really hear the emotion.
“You had me crawling for you honey and it never would’ve gone away, no. You used to shine so bright but I watched all of it fade.”
The Way I Loved You
Love love love this song so much because it’s just three emotions in one. The verses are so sweet then the chorus is exciting and then the bridge is kinda angsty lol. Plus the way she says ‘frustrating’ in the chorus is even better in the rerecorded version so I appreciate that a lot.
“Breaking down and coming undone it’s a roller coaster kinda rush and I never knew I could feel that much. And that’s the way I loved you.”
Forever & Always
Can I say this song is literally country girl teen angst? I think I can. You’ll agree with me even more if you see a video of the live performance where she’s like flipping sofas and all that. I mean, who doesn’t love a dramatic moment.
“Oh, and it rains in your bedroom, everything is wrong. It rains when you’re here and it rains when you’re gone. ‘Cause I was there when you said forever and always.”
The Best Day
A very cute song about her relationship with her mom with little shoutouts to her dad and brother which is ☺️. The lyric video thouuugghhh 💞💞
“I know you were on my side even when I was wrong and I love you for giving me your eyes, staying back and watching me shine.”
Change
Omg a few months ago I found my old iPod and this song was on it for some reason? Like I don’t even remember knowing it existed at that time, I only started listening to it like a few years ago. So yeah that was an interesting revelation for me. Love the song, kind of empowering.
“Because these things will change, can you feel it now? These walls that they put up to hold us back will fall down.”
Jump Then Fall
This song is very cute and reminds me more of debut album Taylor so I don’t think it fits much on the album. But I still do love it.
“Whoa, oh, I’m feeling you, baby. Don’t be afraid to jump then fall, jump then fall into me.”
Untouchable
UNTOUCHABLE IS SO BEAUTIFUL. The song is so sad and sweet and romantic at the same time and I love the way her voice sounds in it and the main instrument is the guitar and it’s just so ✨✨✨ahfjdhefuhu ✨✨✨ I found out last year that this song is actually a cover and the original song is a rock song by Luna Halo. Yep, a rock song. Taylor’s version gives the lyrics their well deserved time to shine which they don’t really get in the original. (go compare the two, it’s so strange).
“In the middle of the night, when I’m in this dream. It’s like a million little stars spelling out your name. You gotta, come on, come on, say that we’ll be together. Come on, come on, little taste of heaven.”
Come in With The Rain
This song feels super nostalgic to me even though it’s not a song I used to listen to that much. It’s just got this kinda memory-like feeling to it which is interesting to me. Not one of my favourite songs but still a nice one.
“I’ll leave my window open, ’cause I’m too tired tonight to call your name. Just know I’m right here hoping, that you’ll come in with the rain”
Superstar
Hmmm I… don’t really love this song. Maybe the only skip because it doesn’t really stand out to me.
“So dim that spotlight, tell me things like “I can’t take my eyes off of you””
The Other Side of the Door
YESS I LOVE THIS SONG!! This one comes right after Hey Stephen for me because… I’m obsessed??? Some more drama queen vibes which I love because it’s something we all need but don’t know we need. I could play the bridge and outro of this song on repeat for days and I’m not lying.
“With your face and the beautiful eyes And the conversation with the little white lies And the faded picture of a beautiful night You carried me from your car up the stairs And I broke down crying, was she worth this mess? After everything and that little black dress After everything I must confess, I need you“
(lol yes I posted the whole outro to bless your lives a bit. also I love that she mentioned two One Direction songs before they even existed: ‘Little White Lies’ and ‘Little Black Dress’.)
Today Was a Fairytale
I like this song a lot… but it doesn’t really stand out either. Still love it a lot more than Superstar at least.
“Can you feel this magic in the air? It must’ve been the way you kissed me. Fell in love when I saw you standing there.”
You All Over Me (feat. Maren Morris)
Onto the vault songs yay! (the songs that weren’t on the original album but she wanted them to be). This song is super well written and it’s kind of like the opposite of her song ‘Clean’ which is very interesting.
“No amount of freedom gets you clean, I’ve still got you all over me”
Mr. Perfectly Fine
Apparently every song she writes about Joe Jonas is just really really good? (e.g. Forever & Always, Last Kiss) and especially this one which definitely has some kind of black magic because it’s super addictive. Oh also this is Country Girl Teen Angst™ Part 2 .
“Hello, Mr. “Perfectly fine” How’s your heart after breakin’ mine? Mr. “Always at the right place at the right time,” baby Hello, Mr. “Casually cruel” Mr. “Everything revolves around you””
We Were Happy (feat. Keith Urban)
At first this song was just good but the after listening to it a few times I realised that this is kind of about her realising that she isn’t in love with the person and the guilt she feels because of that. So now I look at the song differently and I love it a lot more.
“When it was good, baby, it was good, baby. We showed ’em all up, no one could touch the way we laughed in the dark. Talking ’bout your daddy’s farm and you were gonna marry me and we were happy.”
That’s When
I prefer the verses of this song to the choruses which is super strange, but it’s mainly because I like how their voices sound in the verses. It’s a cool duet and…yeah! That’s all lol.
“And I knew my words were hard to hear, and harder to ever take back.”
Don’t You
Don’t You is so beautiful 😭 I love the melody of it so much and it’s so emotional and sad and all that not-so-fun jazz. Maybe my favourite vault song? Tied with Mr. Perfectly Fine I’d say.
“Hey, I knew I’d run into you somewhere. It’s been a while, I didn’t mean to stare. I heard she’s nothin’ like me, I’m sure she’ll make you happy.”
Bye Bye Baby
Definitely another very country song and maybe my least favourite vault song, sorry to this song. I don’t hate it I just don’t love it.
“There’s so much that I can’t touch, you’re all I want but it’s not enough this time.”
If you made it to the end of this post I just want to give you a big hug and a congratulations. *virtual hug 🤗💐*.
Let me know in the comments what you thought of the album if you’ve heard it or if you liked my post! I’d love to see if you agree or disagree with any of my opinions.
my assessments are done so I can finally write this post 😭☺️
anywayss. The Grammys were one week ago and they were definitely quite interesting. I mean we are in the middle of a pandemic so they did the best they could lol. Last year I woke up extra early and then ended up missing all the important categories and performances because I had school and this year my tv decided not to stream the Grammys at all so I really couldn’t win.
and here are my opinions on some of the winners and outfits and stuff just because (I’m only going to talk about the artists and categories I’m interested in, definitely not everybody cause that would make an extremely long post)
**** Before I talk about the winners and random stuff I first wanna say that I’m aware that the Grammys are very often swayed by race and gender so they are often inaccurate (I mean The Weekend didn’t even get one single nomination this year which is proof enough) so I mainly just pay attention to the awards for fun and I don’t think they are completely amazing and spectacular at all.****
okay RECORD OF THE YEAR was ‘everything i wanted’ by Billie Eilish which I think was a great song. Should somebody else have gotten the award? Maybe, because it definitely wasn’t the biggest song of the year. But do I still think she deserves it? yes. It was still a very great song. and she won record of the year two years in a row yayyyy!!
then the winner for SONG OF THE YEAR (which basically is for best songwriting) was ‘I Can’t Breathe’ by H.E.R. and yeah I think that song deserved to win too. I actually hadn’t heard it before but now that I’ve listened to it I agree.
the BEST NEW ARTIST was Megan Thee Stallion and I don’t listen to her music that much (or at all really) but obviously I’ve heard a bit of it every now and then. tbh I think every artist in that category was great but I was so sure she’d win, glad I predicted it right lol.
annndd the ALBUM OF THE YEAR was ‘folklore’ by Taylor Swiffftttttt. woohooo. you may not be able to tell but I am very happy about that. folklore is such a well-written and well-produced album and it broke so many records and is all in all just amazing. the lyrics 😭😭😭
‘Future Nostalgia’ by Dua Lipa won BEST POP VOCAL ALBUM which I find so odd because folklore was also nominated in that category?? and if you win album of the year you most likely would have also won pop vocal album??? anyways, I’m not complaining because I think Future Nostalgia was also one of the best albums of 2020 and the way she made kind of modern disco pop music is awesome. Not gonna lie I think Fine Line deserved to win but it is what it is.
and finally the BEST POP SOLO PERFORMANCE was ‘Watermelon Sugar’ by Harry Styles. Super awesome for him because that’s his first Grammy and that’s a big moment. Also I think the production of WS was actually really great. The song itself now gets on my nerves because it was so overplayed but it still is a catchy song so it’s all good. I thought Doja Cat would win this and I’m so surprised she didn’t win anything since this was such a big year for her.
Let me also talk about the fact that all four of the major award categories (the first four ones I talked about) were won by women 💖✨💐🌷💕🌸 And Beyoncé is now tied for the most Grammy wins (28, are you kidding me) and is the most awarded woman. Oh and that Taylor Swift won album of the for the third time in 3 different genres. Women’s history month am I right? yes.
Honestly some of the outfits this year were a teensy bit disappointing but I’ll let it slide cause like covid you know? So here are the top 3 looks in my opinion.
Sureeee Dua’s red carpet dress was beautiful but I honestly loved this a lot for some reason so I’m keeping it.
The dress is so cute and spring-y and also I’m just totally in love with the shoes they’re so cute omg.
The design! The colour! Idk how she walked around with that huge dress but I mean I definitely applaud her for it.
Just realised all three of the looks I mentioned are pink, oops.
Anywaysss, congrats to anyone who read til the end of this post. It is so random and I don’t even know where I was trying to go with it but it was fun to write so that’s a success to me. Talk to me in the comments!!! Let me know if you agree or disagree with anything I’ve said hehe.
Love, Hreem xx
(p.s. it would mean the world if you checked out my covers <3)
I hope you’re all doing great and enjoying the start of the holidays (if they’ve started for you yet).
I am aware that I’m here with another Taylor Swift album review just around 4 months after the last one but IT’S NOT MY FAULT! I blame Taylor for releasing another amazing album so fast.
Lol the only thing I’m upset about is that I was planning to talk about Little Mix’s album ‘Confetti’ and I already wrote most of the post but then came evermore and I just … I couldn’t not. If you guys wouldn’t mind/would be interested in a post about Confetti do let me know cause I really love that album, it’s in my top 5 of the albums released this year.
So yeah, onto evermore.
Taylor decided to once again drop a surprise album less than 5 months after the last one (folklore). evermore and folklore are sister albums so the sound is almost the same and the songs are still written as if you’re telling a story. But evermore sounds a bit more mature to me and the production sounds a lot more magical while folklore sounded more melancholy. The topics of the songs are really interesting too, like a rejected proposal, a murder mystery and a song about her grandmother.
It’s just such a good album and ohmygosh the lyrics, the lyricssss. The lyrics are heaven sent and that’s all I can say. Plus the fact that this album was made in around 4 months??? and it’s a masterpiece??
Now here are my top 5 lyrics and my current ranking of the songs. Super hard to decide by the way.
✨✨✨
You had a speech, you’re speechless. Loved slipped beyond your reaches. And I couldn’t give a reason. – champagne problems
I don’t like that falling feels like flying till the bone crush. – gold rush (I HAVE BEEN OBSESSED WITH THIS LYRIC SINCE THE SECOND I HEARD IT, incase you were wondering ☺️)
I know my love should be celebrated but you tolerate it AND I made you my temple, my mural, my sky. Now I’m begging for footnotes in the story of your life. – tolerate it
I can’t make it go away by making you a villain, I guess it’s the price I pay for seven years in heaven. – happiness
I cause no harm, mind my business. If our love died young I can’t bear witness. – right where you left me
✨✨✨
Tadaaa.
Finally, here is my ranking of the songs which has changed *so much* since my first listen.
tolerate it
champagne problems
no body, no crime
happiness
right where you left me
gold rush
ivy
long story short
closure
’tis the damn season
marjorie
dorothea
willow
evermore
coney island
cowboy like me
it’s time to go
Now actually tada lol. There it is.
I hope you enjoyed this post and if you made it this far you deserve a round of applause *cue the applause*.
Have you listened to evermore? What are your thoughts and which songs do you like or dislike? Do comment because I’d love to chat!
